POSITION TITLE:    Physical Therapy/Sports Medicine Instructor

REPORTS TO:          Career Center Director

JOB GOAL:               To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature and responsible men and women in the area of Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. The Intro to Sports Medicine / Physical Therapy Instructor will perform duties related to student success by utilizing classroom and laboratory instruction, industry certification preparation, work-based learning, internships, and Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s). Intro to Sports Medicine / Physical Therapy curriculum and Industry Recognized Certification attainment will be the focus, as well as other curriculum resources/initiatives.

Qualifications:        The applicant must have at least the equivalent or higher of a Physical Therapy's Assistant certification and meet one of the following qualifications to become an instructor:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand (4,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years; or
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand (5,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience within the past ten (10) years; or
  • No degree and six thousand (6,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years.

Terms of employment:  New teachers 177 days; returning teachers 174 days, with benefits provided according to the Excelsior Springs School District.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the time designated.

    • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

    • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

    • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

    • Develop industry partnerships.

    • Develop/adapt curriculum to meet industry standards and local industry needs.

    • Demonstration of highest levels of integrity and professionalism in all aspects, including appearance, demeanor, and attitude.

    • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills.

    • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like, to communicate these objectives to students.

    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

    • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports

 

Evaluation:  Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
