OVERVIEW
The Information Systems Specialist job is done for the purpose/s of supporting/maintaining all aspects of the District’s information database systems; integration/data flow; ensuring data security; managing user access and related records; and analyzing problems and technical issues related to the District’s database systems and other related software.  In conjunction, these tasks will be expected to be performed with a high level of social and intrapersonal skills as demonstrated through communication, teamwork, and collaboration.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in the job-related field and possess knowledge and skills in SQL. 4 years of full-time computer experience supporting or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated competence in administrative software and database systems support and management/setup/maintenance/interfacing to include student records and other database systems.
  • Experience working with multiple entities and organizations to complete tasks and reports
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision; work occasionally after hours
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Experience with the school district student information data services software applications (preferred).
  • Experience with software and tools using data to produce business intelligence reporting (preferred)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Provisions and supports all application integration opportunities with third-party software to District database systems; Human Resource, Business/Financial, Transportation, Library, Communications, and Student Information systems to maximize the efficiency of the data flow and decreasing redundancy of data collection activities.
  2. Provides maintenance and upgrade services of on-premises applications.
  3. Develop and implement original program code, scripts, queries, and stored procedures to integrate and analyze large volumes of data to support the District's data tracking and reporting requirements and providing formal automated solutions to manual processes.
  4. Develop, maintain, and monitor database access system tools related to student information systems and supporting data systems (Clever, Destiny, Pearson, School Messenger, etc.).
  5. Assess service request entries regarding district software, information, access, security, permissions, and other data issues to determine and implement solutions with limited supervision that ensure accurate and timely resolutions.
  6. Participates in the development of internal data management plans and activities with personnel of other departments (e.g., Business Office, Payroll Department, Human Resources, etc.) to avoid duplication of efforts, share information, and maximizing system efficiency.
  7. Collaborates with internal and external parties (e.g., curriculum staff, operations staff, other technology staff, administrators, vendors, etc.) to convey and/or receive information to ensure the success of the District's database, reporting, and audit projects.
  8. Ensures that all technology systems and data meet security and efficiency guidelines to comply with federal, state, and District regulations and procedures and quality support for users.
  9. Assists users with the development and enhancement of data gathering, storage, manipulation, and reporting.
  10. Schedules, conducts, and provides documentation for all Technology Department training sessions held for system users and maintains availability to conduct individualized training
  11. Manages short-term internal projects to meet departmental goals and timelines.
  12. Participates in meetings, workshops and/or training to create short and long-range plans, and for conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  13. Prepares written materials to document activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month employee. Salary, work year, and leave determined by district salary schedule and applicable Board of Education policies. Valid Missouri driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle as a means of transportation between buildings during the workday.

EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Staff.

 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Normal school environment and moderate noise levels. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment.

 

Must be able to work at desk/computer for extended periods of time.  Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
